Joe Gould in Cinderella Man Cinderm2

Paul Giamatti plays Joe Gould, Braddock's outspoken trainer/ manager.  Discuss the importance of this character in the film.  He does something very important structurally as well....Think about it.

Joe is an important character because he us the one that gives courage to Braddock and tells him to keep going. He is also the one that is able to get Braddock the fights, and Braddock was able to get back on his feet able because of Joe. Without Joe, Braddock would probably not be at the place he ended up in at the end and would probably still be struggling with poverty. However though, Joe was the one to convince the people that organize the boxing matches that Braddock should be allowed to fight again which allowed Braddock to end up being the champion.

Joe was Braddocks motivation and he’s the one who always had faith in Braddock and didn’t give up on him when he got hurt and old. He was the one who thought he could still be the best even when everyone else said he couldn’t. One courageous act that he did was sell all his stuff in his fancy apartment just so Braddock had money to train. Joes loyalty played a big part in Braddocks success in the end.

Joe Gould is important to the story because he motivates Braddock and works to get Jim back into boxing ultimately leading to Jim becoming champion again. Gould is used to move plot forward for this reason; no Gould, no Braddock boxing again. He is also used to show that the depression affected everyone. He seems wealthy as we see his luxurious apartment but when Maye visits we see that his house is empty and that they use fold-out tables and chairs to dine. This helps give the movie more of a real feel.

Joe Gould was a very motivating person and it was because of him that Braddock had such a successful career. Joe played a big part in helping Braddock through the depression by getting him another fight, lending him money when he was in desperate need of it ,and also feeding Braddock before his returning fight

Joe Gould, played by Paul Giamatti, is a significant character from the film for various reasons. Joe Gould and James Braddock have a great friendship, along with support and trust for one another. Gould cares for Braddock and wants him to succeed in everything he does and overcome his financial struggles. Gould always tried his best to give Braddock many opportunities to earn money for his family. Joe went out of his way for Braddock several times, along with breaking the rules for James, because he truly believed in Braddock. In a way, he helped Braddock win his fights because he always knew how to motivate him and encourage him to do his best. Without Joe, it is a very big possibility that Braddock wouldn’t have won those fights, especially the fight against Bare which helped him get out of poverty.

Joe was a very important character because he was always there to keep Braddock motivated. He always knew that Jimmy could be the best and he never gave up on him. He was very loyal to Braddock. He stayed by his side even when everyone else gave up on his fighting career. Without Joe, Braddock never would have gotten any of the fights that he did. Joe helped Braddock get back on his feet. Joe never gave up on him, even in the worst of time.

Joe is an important character because he walks Braddock through the fights and gives him courage and strength. He also gets Braddock important fights that help him make money, which ultimately help Braddock get his life back together and out of the depression. Without Joe, Braddock would probably not be at the place he ended up in at the end and would probably still be struggling with poverty.

Joe Gould played by Paul Giamatti is a very important character in the film Cinderella Man. He advances the plot and makes an emotional connection between him and James. When James breaks his hand Joe not only ignores the rule but puts extra tape on, risking his own reputation so James could get money to provide for his family. He does this again when he risks everything he has left to support Braddock so he could, come back to boxing and win the championship. His faith in James was so high that he sold everything he had to get him the proper equipment to train, while still puting on the act of himself being fine, when in reality he just gave away everything so James could have this opportunity.

Joe Gould is an important character because he pushes Braddock to keep fighting. Even when he is struggling himself, he helps Braddock to get back on his feet. He believes in Braddock, and so he perseveres and arranges matches for him. When everyone thinks Braddock is just a washed up boxer, Gould sees potential. Without Joe Gould’s determination, Braddock may not have become the champion.

Joe always had faith in Braddock. Even though Braddock wasn't allowed to fight anymore, Joe was able to convince them to let him fight again. Furthermore, Joe sold everything he owned in order to pay for Braddock's training. Even though many people thought that Braddockwas too old to fight or not good enough anymore, Joe always had faith in him no matter what. If it wasn't for Joe, Braddock would not be able to fight again and would be stuck on the streets.

Joe Gould, Braddock's manager and coach, was James J. Braddock's motivation, as well as courage in order to partake in all the fights he did. Whether it be at Madison Square Garden in New York, or in Vegas, or in the middle of nowhere, Joe was always there to give Braddock the push he needed in order to succeed, as seen in the movie's happy ending. Even through the struggles of The Great Depression, Joe was able to get the hurt Braddock back into the ring in order to put food on his family's table. Joe was able to get him matches, and convince the boxing commission he was ready to fight. While Braddock was fighting in the ring, Joe was fighting behind the scenes to make everything happen. In the end, Braddock became the Heavyweight champ, and a happy ending took place all thanks to Joe.

Gould acts as a physically real version of Jimmy's active conscious as he wants Jimmy to keep fighting through most of the movie and understands what he is going through. He is with Jimmy on every step of this violent journey even till the end. Joe pushes Braddock to become a better fighter by giving him challenges and opportunity that most trainers wouldn't. Most others would just see him as a washed up old man. Joe however, helps Jimmy crack into his hidden potential.
