We just watched the "Fight of the Century" as depicted in Mann's biopic, ALI....Now watch a few minutes of the real thing below...notice any differences?  Be certain to fast forward a bit..or you can watch the entire match if you like.... Smile

There are a few differences between the film depiction and the real thing. The most notable is that Ali is much taller and muscular than Frazier in real life but in the movie, Frazier is about the same height as Ali but looks more muscular. I think they depict the fight like that so it seems like Muhammad lost to a sizeable opponent as opposed to someone he dominates in terms of size. Another difference is the colour of the ring announcer's suit. In real life he wears navy blue and in the movie he wears grey. This is not an important difference but it is different none the less.

Frazier is much smaller and less muscular then he was depicted in the movie. In the movie he was depicted as a large tank that could throw powerful punches, but in reality he was much smaller and not as muscular as Ali. I guess in the movie they wanted to make it seem like Ali was the underdog and beat an opponent much bigger then him to show his strength.

The most noticeable difference, between the fight in the movie and the one in real life, is size. In real life Ali is bigger then Frazier, he is taller and is more muscular. While in the movie, Frazier is shown to be the larger opponent. I think the fight is depicted like this in the movie to make it seem like Ali was at a disadvantage so that later in the film when Ali finally wins back his title it seems like he overcame even larger obstacles.

The most noticeable difference between the Mohammad Ali movie and real life is, in the movie they made Fraizer alot taller and more muscular to depict Ali as the underdog when in reality Ali was much bigger.

In the movie, Frazier appears to be a much bigger guy compared to Muhammad Ali, played by Will Smith. In real life, Ali is much taller and more muscular than Frazier. The film depicts Frazier as larger to show he is an intimidating and challenging opponent. This is to create more suspense and intensity for the audience. It also makes the viewers second-guess Ali’s abilities as “the people’s champ”.

The big difference Between the movie and the Real life fight is Joe Frazier and his physique. In the film they made Joe seem like he was very big and very slow. But in reality he was not like that , he was muscular but just big as the movie mad him seem. The reason they did this in my opinion is to make Frazier seem like "the bad guy" and Ali played by will smith to be the better boxer and so the audience would cheer for him and not like Frazier. A similarity I noticed was that they did a very good job on making Alis boxing shorts and shoes the look the same as real life.

Th main difference that I noticed while watching the two fights was the size of Joe Frazier. The film depicts Joe as a very big man compared to Ali, while in reality he was not. This was most likely done in order to create more suspense and to make Joe seem like a tougher and fierce competitor.

Can you spot any difference? Empty Ali

Frazier is alot smaller in real life than how he was in the movie. The decision to make him larger and more muscular is probably because it is more interesting to see and underdog like Ali beat a guy so much bigger than he is.

Frazier is much smaller in real life than he is depicted in the movie. In the movie he is a giant who is very strong, big and powerful. But in reality, he may be just as strong and powerful but he is much smaller in comparison to the film. Ali is much taller and bigger than Frazier. They probably showed Frazier in this way to make it seem like it was going to be much more difficult for Ali to win because of the size difference.

In the film, Frazier is heavier, bigger and stronger than Ali, making him look like a tougher, harder opponent to fight, However, in real life, he is actually the opposite of that. He is smaller and less muscular than Ali. I also noticed that Frazier hit Ali with knockout type punches a lot more in the movie, but in real life, the hits were not as hard.

Can you spot any difference? Empty Ali Spot the difference Kai H.R

Compared to the real fight, there is only a few minor changes depicted in the film. The most prominent change is in the depiction of Joe frazier who in the film is seen as a very tall, muscular and bulky guy. In reality, Joe frazier was in fact shorter than Muhammad ali by about 4 inches, and weighed less as well. Joe was also more lankier than heavy like he is depicted in the film, compared to Muhamad Ali who in reality was both taller and heavier than Joe frazier. These changes to Joe frazier were most likely done In favor of Muhammad Ali and to make him seen as the underdog. He didn't want to have it be shown that he was defeated by a smaller person that him, this would of probably caused him much embarrassment.

The most key difference between the real life match and Mann's depiction of the match in the biopic Ali, is the physique of the two fighters. Ali in the movie is depicted as a much smaller fighter than he really is, against a tall and muscular Frazier. After all, he is a heavyweight, weighting about 210 pounds. Mann does this in order to give a sense of suspense and the possibility that Ali is outmatched within the movie. However, in real life, the two are actually the opposite. Ali was larger than Frazier, and it was more evenly matched until Ali took over the fight. In summary, Frazier and Ali's key difference in real life as opposed to Mann's depiction of their match is their muscular builds, as well as heights thanks to the key element of entertainment, suspense.

Can you spot any difference? Empty Ali: Differences

Post  Bradsimonn Fri Apr 20, 2018 1:07 am

The main difference between the legendary bout in real life and in the movie is the size and frame of Joe Frazier. For plot reasons the film depicted Frazier as a sizeable opponent to Ali who may contest him in power and frame. However, in real life Ali is a lot bigger in size and frame.
